Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in a typical Indian home-loan EMI?
Your EMI mainly covers principal and interest on a reducing-balance loan. Separately budget for property tax, home insurance, society maintenance and processing fees — these are usually not bundled into the EMI the way US “PITI” packages are.
How much down payment do Indian lenders expect?
Most banks fund about 75–90% of the property value (LTV), so buyers often bring 10–25% as down payment plus registration/stamp duty. A larger down payment can improve approval odds and FOIR comfort; confirm exact LTV with your bank for the city and property type.
What factors affect my home-loan interest rate?
Rates depend on your CIBIL/credit profile, income stability, LTV, loan tenure, salaried vs self-employed status, and whether the rate is linked to an external benchmark (e.g. repo-linked). Compare APR including processing fees, not only the headline rate.
Should I choose a shorter or longer home-loan tenure?
Shorter tenures (e.g. 10–15 years) mean higher EMIs but less total interest. Longer tenures (20–30 years) lower the EMI but increase interest cost. Use this calculator to compare, and see our Loan EMI calculator and Home Loan Guide for India-specific examples.
What is an amortization schedule?
An amortization schedule shows the breakdown of each payment, including how much goes toward principal and interest, and the remaining loan balance. It helps you understand how your loan balance decreases over time.
